It is September 5th<\/sup> and it has been approximately one year since I moved my massage practice from Seattle, WA to Priest Lake, ID.\u00a0 When I first moved to Priest
\nLake the time was spent recovering from the high speed of caffeinated
\nSeattle, soaking in vitamin D for my deficient body and repairing a
\ncabin that had sat unused for 10 years.\u00a0 Everything moved so
\ndifferently it was hard to find a daily rhythm and seasonal routine.
\nMoving into the winter of 2011-12, it was a welcome quiet and serene
\natmosphere up at Priest Lake.\u00a0 Mostly it was enjoyable but there was
\nan aura of depression that permeated the air.\u00a0 I couldn’t quite grasp
\nwhat it was until now.\u00a0 The manic season of summer is balanced by the
\ndepressed season of winter.\u00a0 People make hay when the sun shines
\naround here.<\/p>\n

The rhythm of Priest Lake is the life and times of a seasonal resort community.\u00a0 The high season is summer, and according to the rules of the vacationer’s up at Priest Lake
\nsummer is over.\u00a0 People are pulling their boats out of the water and
\nreadying them for winter and closing up their cabins.\u00a0 For the local
\nresidents of Priest Lake, now is the time to catch up on much needed
\nrest, play and preparation for the winter.\u00a0 Fall is the time when the
\nlocal residents have a minute to breathe after the mania of the
\nsummer.\u00a0 Business owners and employees alike have worked 16 hours a
\nday, seven days a week since July 4th<\/sup> without a day off.
\nThe combination has depleted the body and spirit but added to the
\npurse.\u00a0 The high energy of the summer still permeates the air and
\nthere is a feeling of getting things done for the winter. Winterizing
\nis what the vacationer’s call this process. For the residents and
\nbusiness owner’s at Priest Lake, winterizing means something
\ncompletely different.<\/p>\n

First and foremost it means taking a short breather and recovering from the manic pace set all throughout the summer. Part of this includes getting out on the lake or into the
\nwoods for a hike because it was too busy in order to do so during the
\nhigh season of summer.\u00a0 Or it means taking care of the injuries that
\nhave accumulated over the summer from long hours of hard work and
\nplay with little sleep.<\/p>\n

Secondly it means bust a move and get some outdoor projects completed before the snow hits in 2-3 months.\u00a0 This may include getting cords of wood in order to stay warm for the
\nwinter or repairing any\u00a0 fixtures that fell astray during the manic
\nsummer season.<\/p>\n

Thirdly it means implement a marketing campaign to generate new business for next year’s summer and to generate more business for the slower fall and winter season.\u00a0 It
\nalso means collect unemployment for the seasonal worker and wait till
\nthe next busy season comes around with people who have money to
\nspend.<\/p>\n

For those of us who are established or who are planners, the plan is already in place.\u00a0 New marketing campaigns have already been implemented and some of the work has
\nalready been accomplished.\u00a0 For those of us who are not planners it
\nis time to hustle and get it going!<\/p>\n

Whew!\u00a0 It sure is hard to find a moment to relax up here at the lake.\u00a0 Thank goodness it so dang pretty that you can’t help but feel relaxed while you look out the
\nwindow at the lake, mountains and wildlife while at work.<\/p>\n
